Think for a moment about the semantic meaning of the snoozed message in the screenshot, because it can vary. Regardless, when the snooze timer expires, the message reappears in your inbox. Since various apps use different methods to hide snoozed messages, if you use multiple email apps on multiple devices, you may be able to see them with some apps but not others. Gmail shows a Snoozed label in the sidebar that groups snoozed messages together. Depending on the method the app uses to snooze a message, you may still be able to look at what you’ve snoozed other times you can’t. When you snooze a message, you’re taking it off your immediate plate. Snoozing is a Band-Aid that makes your inbox appear empty. It might feel gratifying, but it’s impossible to be sure that none of those deleted messages will prove essential in the future. (The logical extreme of the “Select All Delete” method is sometimes called email bankruptcy, when applied to thousands of messages. You don’t review seven email messages related to a project to have seven fewer messages in your inbox, but instead to make specific plans for addressing the issues contained in them, and revise your thinking about the amount of time the project requires. The empty inbox isn’t the point of Inbox Zero, the point is the work you’ve done getting there. Inbox Zero can be a powerful technique, because that empty inbox is psychologically reassuring that you’re caught up and ready for whatever may appear tomorrow.īut you could also empty your inbox with Select All followed by a press of the Delete key. With Inbox Zero, you move messages out of your inbox when you have dealt with them, or at least when you’ve triaged every message-perhaps into other folders indicating priority, category of follow-up, or issue area-and given them some consideration and planning. Many people employ snoozing in a quest for Inbox Zero, which is indicated by an empty inbox at the end of the day. In Gmail, the defaults are 6:00 PM today, 8:00 AM tomorrow morning, next week, or next weekend. Click a button while reading a message, and it seemingly goes away until a time you specify. If you’re unfamiliar with the email snooze feature-and I hope this explanation won’t entice you to try it out-it gives you the appearance of control over how many messages are waiting for you in your inbox. Unfortunately, snoozing falls into the category of ideas that feel productive but are often detrimental to productivity. But many third-party email apps have long offered similar snoozing features.Īs part of my research for my book Take Control of Your Productivity, I evaluated many such methods to see which were actually useful. Email snoozing is one such feature that made the news recently when it was incorporated into Gmail after the obsolescence of Google’s Inbox app that first offered it. Many apps today offer features designed to keep you on task and make sure you’re doing what you set out to do an hour ago. #1666: Air quality websites and apps, The Password Game.#1667: OS Rapid Security Responses, 1Password and 2FA, using Siri to request music.#1668: Updated Rapid Security Responses, OS public betas, screen saver bug fixed, “Red Team Blues” book review.#1669: OS security updates, ambiguity of emoji, small business payments with Melio, Twitter now X.#1670: Arc Web browser hits 1.0 release, “Do You Use It?” polls about Apple features. There are a couple different OS X options, but this one seems to be the Really the longest phase was the downloading (which really didn't take that long). I downloaded some free software and followed the directions. I have a MacBook, so naturally I got started with it. Wiimote Analyzer is a programįor recording data from the accelerometer. This is easier than loading up a whiteboard appĪs I don't have to get out of my chair. To see if it's working (you must join the Wiimote Project in order to see the download link). Keep the lights flashing until the connection is made. This means the wiimote is looking for a connection. You should see lights flashing on the wiimote. Click the 1 & 2 buttons at the same time. The wiimote for you or the program starts looking for a wiimote as soonĪs you launch it. I've used so far have a button to click that will look for and connect On the Mac side just run the program you want to use. I use Wiimote Connect,īut you can add the wiimote like you'd add any other bluetooth device. Download the programs listed in the download section below. If needed: Plug in your bluetooth adapter and wait for Windows to install the drivers.IR Pens Online - They sell a cool pen that doesn't need a button.ĭo this the first time you try to get your wiimote working with your computer.I may even put my science/technology club to work making them to sell as a fund raiser. My instructions (pdf) - Note, I just figured out an easier way to do this.John Sowash at the Electric Educator blog did a review of some IR pens, you might want to check it out. Please let me know how it went, good or bad. I list couple below that I found with a Google Search, but I have not ordered anything from either of them. Was recommended by Johnny Lee is the Vishay Semiconductors TSAL6400 ($0.30+ship from Mouser). I had a bunch of IR LEDs layingĪround, but only one that was bright enough to be usable. I've tried it with both WinXP and Vista.īright IR LED to make this work. It is so tiny you can put it in and never really have to worry about taking it out. Personally, I recommend the IOGear USB Micro Adapter. Bluetooth adapter - Most work, if you want to be sure check the list of compatible adapters. If you have a Wii you have one already, it will still work with your Wii, so don't worry. Yes, the same Bluetooth that phones and computers use. The Wiimote communicates what it "sees" with the Wii through Bluetooth. It doesn't really matter which moves, the IR light or the camera. All the Wiimote does is look for relative motion. The camera ( Wiimote) is kept stationary and the IR light moves. When used as a whiteboard we reverse the set up. Used with a Wii the IR lights are positioned atop your TV and the Wiimote "sees" where the lights are relative to the camera. Has a camera in the front that looks for infrared light sources. The whole technology was developed by Johnny Chung Lee. If you haven't heard, you can use a Wiimote, the controller from a Nintendo Wii, as the heart of an interactive whiteboard. Well, it's been all over the net for a couple of years now so I figured it was about time to jump on the bandwagon. ' im ˑiəm Ĭompare these Middle Chinese and Old Chinese (with asterisk) reconstructions of yīn 陰 and yáng 陽: Reconstructions of Old Chinese have illuminated the etymology of modern Chinese words. Sinologists and historical linguists have reconstructed Middle Chinese pronunciations from data in the (7th century CE) Qieyun rhyme dictionary and later rhyme tables, which was subsequently used to reconstruct Old Chinese phonology from rhymes in the (11th–7th centuries BCE) Shijing and phonological components of Chinese characters. The Modern Standard Chinese pronunciation of 陰 is usually the level first tone yīn "shady cloudy" or sometimes the falling fourth tone yìn "to shelter shade" while 陽 "sunny" is always pronounced with rising second tone yáng. In the latter, yáng 昜 "bright" features 日 "sun" + 示 + 彡 "The rays of the sun". The Chinese characters 陰 and 陽 for the words yīn and yáng are both classified as Phono-semantic characters, combining the semantic component "mound hill" radical 阝(graphical variant of 阜) with the phonetic components jīn 今 (and the added semantic component yún 云 "pictographic: cloud") and yáng 昜. Characters " Yin-yang" in seal script (top), Traditional Chinese characters (middle), and Simplified Chinese characters (bottom) These Chinese terms yīn 陰 "dark side" and yáng 陽 "light side" are linguistically analyzable in terms of Chinese characters, pronunciations and etymology, meanings, topography, and loanwords. 2nd century BC), a moral dimension is attached to the idea of yin and yang. In the ethics of Confucianism on the other hand, most notably in the philosophy of Dong Zhongshu ( c. In Taoist metaphysics, distinctions between good and bad, along with other dichotomous moral judgments, are perceptual, not real so, the duality of yin and yang is an indivisible whole. The yin and yang symbol (or taijitu) shows a balance between two opposites with a portion of the opposite element in each section. Either of the two major aspects may manifest more strongly in a particular object, depending on the criterion of the observation. According to this philosophy, everything has both yin and yang aspects (for instance, shadow cannot exist without light). Yin and yang can be thought of as complementary (rather than opposing) forces that interact to form a dynamic system in which the whole is greater than the assembled parts. The term "dualistic-monism" or dialectical monism has been coined in an attempt to express this fruitful paradox of simultaneous unity and duality. The notion of duality can be found in many areas, such as Communities of Practice. This duality lies at the origins of many branches of classical Chinese science and philosophy, as well as being a primary guideline of traditional Chinese medicine, and a central principle of different forms of Chinese martial arts and exercise, such as baguazhang, taijiquan (tʻai chi chʻüan) and qigong (chʻi kung), as well as appearing in the pages of the I Ching. Many natural dualities (such as light and dark, fire and water, expanding and contracting) are thought of as physical manifestations of the duality symbolized by yin and yang. It is believed that the organization of qi in this cosmology of yin and yang has formed many things. In the cosmology pertaining to yin and yang, the material energy which this universe was created from is known as qi. It can be compared with the old wuji ( 無極, "without pole"). 'great pole') is a Chinese cosmological term for the "Supreme Ultimate" state of undifferentiated absolute and infinite potential, the oneness before duality, from which yin and yang originate. Taiji or tai chi (simplified Chinese: 太极 traditional Chinese: 太極 pinyin: tàijí lit. Yin is the receptive and yang the active principle, seen in all forms of change and difference such as the annual cycle (winter and summer), the landscape (north-facing shade and south-facing brightness), sex (female and male), the formation of both men and women as characters, and sociopolitical history (disorder and order). In Chinese cosmology, the universe creates itself out of a primary chaos of material energy, organized into the cycles of yin and yang and formed into objects and lives. Yin and yang ( / j ɪ n/ and / j æ ŋ/), yinyang, or yin-yang is a Chinese philosophical concept that describes opposite but interconnected forces.

Cassette Beasts' turn-based combat goes out of its way to ensure it stands out of the crowd while still offering a fairly accessible core loop. The game does a good job of establishing its own identity through a mystery-laden plot featuring NPCs who, by and large, have only begun to piece together their situation. Utilizing a cute and detailed pixel art style that harbors back to the Nintendo DS, the RPG features a well-realized island setting that is essentially an open-world, albeit obviously presented from an isometric angle rather than in third-person. Bytten is one such company, and the studio's Cassette Beasts is among the most refreshing modern takes on the monster-taming formula. Over the decades, Game Freak's franchise has not only produced its share of fantastic titles but also inspired other developers to follow suit. Monster-collecting RPGs are not exactly impossible to find, they just seem that way since the subgenre is completely dominated by one name: Pokemon. While there isn't much of a narrative to speak of, Boltgun makes up for it through its environmental design. The game nails its movement and weapons, both of which are as empowering as they should be considering the protagonist. The player is cast as a Space Marine who is assigned missions that basically boil down to "kill everything and make it flashy." Boltgun has very little time or patience for a story, opting instead to throw players into the thick of things and keep them there for as long as possible. RELATED: Things Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun Nails About Retro Shooters Although perhaps not the greatest modern retro shooter, Boltgun is nevertheless an absolute blast to play. As the game wears its influences unabashedly on its sleeve, it risks feeling tired since recent years have produced more than their share of Doom and Blood throwbacks. Boltgun tries to remedy that by providing a budget option that harbors back to retro shooters from the '90s.
